Huddersfield Town target in talks ahead of potential move to Turkey

Huddersfield Town target Danny Williams is reportedly in talks with Turkish Super Lig side Sivasspor over a potential move to Turkey on a free transfer, according to Turkish news outlet Sporundibi.

The American midfielder earned interest from newly-promoted Huddersfield Town following his performances during the Championship Play-Offs last season with Reading, where Williams scored a penalty but was unable to prevent The Royals from losing 4-3 in the end on penalties.

Reading have been desperate to keep hold of Williams, and have offered him a deal that would keep him the highest earner at the club. However his aspirations to play in the Premier League have been made clear, and with David Wagner keen to offer him that opportunity, his days in Berkshire could be numbered.

However, Williams is now being linked with a switch to Turkey, where top-flight Sivasspor have reportedly held talks with the American. The rumour comes out of nowhere, and while there is clearly concrete interest, it’s hard to see him making the switch to East Europe.

His spell at Reading has been a rollercoaster ride, to say the least. Lofty expectations following his arrival from German side Hoffenheim were never really met in the American’s first season in England, but last season he became an integral part of Jaap Stam’s plans.

The box-to-box midfielder developed an excellent partnership with former Manchester City midfielder George Evans, and Stam will be keen to keep the pair for next season, with Evans set to be offered a new 4-year deal.

With his contract at Reading now up, Williams’ future is up in the air, but it would certainly be surprising should he leave Berkshire for Turkey.
