League One Oxford United are closing in on Partick Thistle’s young starlet Liam Lindsay after having a reported £350,000 bid accepted by the SPL side according to The Scottish Sun.
BBC Sport say that the Jags 21-year-old centre-back is “due to travel south” to meet up with Oxford United ahead of a potential transfer that will see Lindsay swap the highest tier of Scottish football for a place in English football’s third-tier competition.
Lindsay turned out 36 times for Partick in last season’s SPL compeition, scoring six goals and providing one assist. But it was a mixture of his potential and consistent displays that drew attention of many but finally led to the concrete interest of Oxford United.
Whilst the deal is not yet complete, Lindsay is only willing to move under certain conditions, one being paramount. According to BBC Sport, the Partick Thistle defender: “is keen to ensure that if he leaves Firhill, it is for a club that will provide first-team football.”
Over on Twitter the Sun’s Alan Nixon posted a tweet updating the above new, then fielded a question from an Oxford United fan keen to know about whether he [Nixon] thought that Lindsay would be able to cut it at League One level.
It is obvious that Nixon thinks that Lindsay will be able to cope with the switch between the SPL and League One, Nixon saying that the young defender “will eat that level,” to such a degree that Oxford would be able to “sell for £2m in a year.”
