New Leeds United manager goes head to head with former club for 17 goal striker

In previous weeks, the72 has reported that Leeds United have shown an interest in Caleb Ekuban.

The Ghanaian striker attracted attention on loan in Albania, scoring 17 goals this season.

His current club is Serie A side Chievo, but he is considered to be surplus to requirements at the Italian side.

But they are not the only club interested in signing Ekuban. In fact, Leeds United’s new manager Thomas Christiansen has an affiliation with a club who are chasing the frontman.

Reports from Italian news outlet CalcioNews (via Sports Witness) in previous weeks have suggest that APOEL Nicosia have submitted a bid believed to be in the region of £500,000 for the striker.

Christiansen was the manager of APOEL last season, leading them to the Cypriot First Division title, as well as the last 16 of the Europa League.

Whether or not the new Leeds boss will still be interested in Ekuban remains to be seen, but if the club pursue their interest in the Chievo man, then it will be a duel between him and his former club.

Christiansen joined Leeds United yesterday (June 16), and was offered a two year contract.

The Spanish manager replaces Garry Monk, who stepped down on May 25 after failing to agree a new deal with the Whites owner Andrea Radrizzani.

Of course, Leeds United were linked with a number of players prior to the appointment of Christiansen, but with a new manager, new transfer rumours will begin to surface.
