Leeds United head coach Christiansen – local journalist speaks

After three long weeks of pontification and worry, Leeds United finally have their man in former APOEL Nicosia bossThomas Christiansen.

After Garry Monk walked out on the Whites, with irreconcilable differences cited as the reason, United had been in the hunt for a replacement. With names such as Aitor Karanka, Claudio Ranieri and even Leeds’ own Pep Clotet, amongst many others, being cited as ‘favourites’ for the job, the appointment of Christiansen has definitely come out of left-field.

Christiansen has had two managerial jobs, with Cypriot sides AEK Larnaca and APOEL Nicosia, and was assistant at Abu Dhabi side Al Jazira.Over these three appointments, he has experience of 120 games – 114 of these where he has been solely in charge. From these ‘solely in charge’ games, Christiansen is said to have developed a defensive first policy that has brought him success in the Cypriot league.

Aside from that, very little is known about the former two-cap Spanish international and one time, seven minute appearance, Barcelona player Christiansen. His appointment has led to some speculation between Leeds United fans, where there isn’t universal accord at his signing.
