Given Bradford City’s unfortunate defeat at the hands of Millwall in the Sky Bet League One Play-Off Final, their misery was compounded when the Lions came back to sign the Bantam’s star left-back James Meredith.
Now, the Bantams are in a situation where their recruitment in this transfer market will be pivotal to whether they can ascertain a promotion push this season and aim to go one better to finish in the Automatics. Meredith’s quality at left-back cannot be overstated with his marauding runs up the pitch into the opposition’s half. The Aussie managed to make 220 appearances in all competitions for the Bantams which saw him become ingrained in the club legend as part of the ‘history making’ squad of 2012/13 who managed to make the Capital One Cup final and to gain promotion from League Two via the play-offs at Wembley.
The left-back will be sorely missed but as he moves on to a new challenge, this article looks at five candidates who could replace him in the upcoming season for the Bantams.
