Sheffield Wednesday fans have been left a bit underwhelmed by reports that are linking them with a move to Vitoria Guimaraes’ Bongani Zungu.
Earlier today, reports from Portuguese publication A Bola suggested that Sheffield Wednesday were one of many teams chasing the signature of Zungu. The South African midfielder is coming off the back of an incredibly starring season for Vitoria and now teams like Wednesday are circling as they hope to snap up him up for themselves.
However for Wednesday fans, it did leave them a little dumbfounded as the vast majority had no idea who he is.

This isn’t really a surprise though as the Primeira Liga isn’t widely watched in England even if it is, people tend to stick to watching the likes of Benfica, Porto and Sporting Lisbon. Zungu is also a defensive midfielder and unlike winger Marco Matias, who was similarly unknown to Wednesday fans when he was first linked with a move to Hillsborough, there aren’t any eye-catching YouTube highlight reels to get excited over.
That said those who have heard of Zungu, who have done some further reading about him, do like the idea of signing him. In fact some have said that the midfielder is actually too good for Wednesday and should be looking higher than being a part of the Owls squad as they challenge for promotion.
I agree, no offence to #SWFC but Bongani has proven himself in a "similar" team & in Europe, he should be aiming for a UCL setup now https://t.co/yR2wZ18Wbc

As much as I’d love Zungu at #SWFC, it’s not the right move for him even if he could get a permit.
He needs to be playing #UEL or #UCL.

But of course while you could all day about Zungu being a good signing for Wednesday, in the end for a few people it is his name which makes him a great proposition. What can you say?
What a name #SWFC https://t.co/hTPNXMhcVP
