Leicester City get their £17m man from the Tigers

Harry Maguire’s transfer for £17m from Hull City to Leicester City has been completed according to BBC Sport.

Maguire originally kickstarted his career in South Yorkshire at Sheffield United making 166 appearances for the Blades from his beginnings as an 18 year-old right through being to one of the first names on the team-sheet at only 21 years of age by 2014. That summer, he left to go to Hull City for £2.5 million after an original £1.5 million bid was rejected by the Blades from Wolves who clearly valued Maguire to a greater price. He then went immediately on loan to Wigan Athletic to gain some more experience before becoming part of Hull’s starting eleven on a more frequent basis.

Since moving to Hull City, Maguire has really developed and grown as defender, looking incredibly confident on the ball with his distribution and confidence to carry the ball being absolutely second to none. His ability to go on marauding runs from defence carrying the ball further up the pitch has certainly gained him a plethora of admirers and his mature attitude has radiated around Hull City on and off the pitch.

After what began as an incredibly shaky season for the former Premier League Champions Leicester, they eventually managed to steady the ship and finish in a respectable 12th position. Upon evaluating Leicester’s last campaign, it’s clear that Wes Morgan and Robert Huth weren’t quite the force in defence that they had been in the 2015/16 season where Leicester ended the season as Champions. This has subsequently prompted the East Midlands based club to look elsewhere for a new defender and it appears Maguire was clearly top of their target list.

As an exciting young English talent in Maguire emerges, a move to Leicester where he is likely to gain frequent Premier League game time appears to be very sensible and one in which could help him to further his claims to make a break into England’s senior international side.
