Bent, Derby County striker open to Ipswich Town return

Derby County striker open to Ipswich Town return

Darren Bent’s former team-mate Tommy Miller has told the East Anglian Daily Times that the Derby County striker would be open to a return to Ipswich Town.

While Bent had a good season with Derby, scoring ten goals in 37 appearances, it appears that his time at the iPro Stadium is coming to a close. Reports suggest that head coach Gary Rowett is looking to completely overhaul the squad after a disappointing year where they failed to challenge for a place in the Sky Bet Championship play-offs and that Bent is one of the players he would be happy to sell.

Some people have suggested that Bent could now make a return to Ipswich, the team he started his professional career with back at the start of the century. He was one of the club’s star men after their relegation to what was then called Division 1, consistently finishing as one of the highest scorers in the league as Ipswich consistently came close to returning to the Premier League.

And now his team-mate at that time Tommy Miller has said that the man himself would be open to a return to Suffolk.

He said: “If there’s a deal to be done it could be great for both parties,”

“Darren’s obviously got massive pedigree and, even at 33, will still have a lot of goals in him at Championship level. Strikers like him never lose that knack of scoring goals. He’s always been a player that is in the right place at the right time and, nine times out of 10, he will put the ball in the net.”

“I know Ipswich is a club very close to his heart and I’m sure he’d be open to a return to Portman Road at this stage in his career.”
