The breaking news from Sky Sources is that Huddersfield have had a bid of £7.2 million rejected by Derby County for their winger Tom Ince.
Ince originally made his name at Blackpool in the Championship during the years of 2011 to 2014, making 100 league appearances for the Seasiders and scoring 31 goals, averaging roughly a goal every three games. This led to speculation of a big move either in the UK or abroad and after a loan spell at Crystal Palace,he saw a move to the KC Stadium and to Hull City take place. This was for a tribunal fee of £2.3 million after several years at Bloomfield Road although Ince failed to make a huge impact at Hull and was loaned out to several clubs.
Ince who has scored 35 goals in 108 appearances for the Rams has clearly caught David Wagner’s eye since Huddersfield have been promoted to the Premier League. Ince who formerly played for Hull City left to Pride Park for a fee of £4.75 million on a four-year deal in 2015 and since then has enjoyed several fantastic seasons with Derby County.
With Huddersfield being promoted to the Premier League, David Wagner will want to invest shrewdly without spending too much money whilst also ensuring the Terriers have the best opportunity of survival. The highest transfer fee Huddersfield have paid for a player has been £1.8 million for Christopher Schindler last summer and the bid of £7.2 million quite comfortably overweighs this total.
Whether Huddersfield are going to make an improved offer remains to be seen although according to Sky Sources, they are expected to come back with a better offer to try to sign the winger.
