Rangers denied in Championship midfielder quest as second bid rejected

The Scottish Sun reports that Sky Bet Championship side Norwich City have rejected a second bid from Rangers for midfielder Graham Dorrans. An initial £700,000 bid was turned down, and the Scottish giants returned with an improved offer deemed not good enough by the Canaries.

It is believed that the second offer issued by the Ibrox club was just below £1million, seemingly below Norwich’s valuation of Dorrans. The 30-year-old is a boyhood Rangers supporter and is keen on making the move to the Ladbrokes Premiership club.

Despite this latest setback, Pedro Caixinha remains confident of being able to prize the player away from Carrow Road. It is well documented that newly appointed head coach Daniel Farke and sporting director Stuart Webber are making big changes to the playing squad at Norwich this summer. Seven players were released at the end of last season and others are set to follow. More new faces have already been recruited as they look to plan a serious assault on promotion.

Dorrans still has two years left on his current contract but is Caixinha’s biggest transfer target this summer. With European football on offer too, Dorrans wants to pull out all the stops himself to make sure this deal goes through. He’ll be hopeful that a move will be able to force his way back into Gordon Strachan’s thinking when it comes to selection for the Scotland national team. Rangers are lining up an improved third bid for the playmaker, which may be tabled later today.
