Middlesborough keeper on Deportivo La Coruna’s radar

Fomer Middlesborough goalkeeper Victor Valdez is raising interest from La Liga side Deportivo La Coruna, according to Fichanes.net.

The former Barcelona man, who won three Champions Leagues and six La Liga title with the club, made 28 appearances for Boro last season after signing for Manchester United, but will be leaving the North East in the coming weeks after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

Following relegation to the Championship, Valdez is keen on a return to his home country, with Deportivo leading the race to snap up the veteran keeper.

Deportivo need to find a replacement for Argentinian goalkeeper German Lux, who isn’t renewing his current deal, and see the 35-year old as the ideal name for the short term.

The World Cup winner has over 650 appearances to his name, but new Boro coach Garry Monk is understood to be looking for a replacement between the sticks.

Valdez married his long-term girlfriend in Barcelona on Friday and is understood to be keen to settle down back in Spain.

Deportivo may have a battle on their hands however, with Manchester City also said to be keen on keeping the goalkeeper in the country as one of their replacements. Joe Hart and Willy Caballero are expected to leave the Etihad this summer and are aiming to add some depths to the goalkeeping department, even after the signing of Brazilian keeper Ederson earlier this month.

Malaga were also said to be keen on Valdez earlier in the season. The Barca legend is certainly in hot demand.
