Leeds United midfielder completes deal to buy Spanish club

Leeds United midfielder Pablo Hernandez has completed a deal to buy Spanish side Castellon, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.  The news was also confirmed on Twitter:

The investment group Capital Albinegro have taken over at the club, with Hernandez part of the consortium.  Castellon currently compete in the Spanish fourth division but have played as high as La Liga in the past.  Hernandez will be hoping that the club can make a return to Spain’s top division.

Hernandez has spent a good amount of his playing career playing nearby for Valencia and now owns his hometown club.  The midfielder currently plays for Championship side Leeds United, after making his loan move to the club permanent in January.  He then agreed to a new one-year deal last month.

In his first season at Leeds, Hernandez managed six goals and eight assists in 35 Championship appearances.  Leeds narrowly missed out on a play-off place under Garry Monk and will be looking for a play-off place once again next season.  However, they will have to do this without Monk, who left the club last month following a change in ownership.  The former Swansea City player and manager has since been appointed as boss of Middlesbrough.

Leeds are yet to appoint a new manager for the upcoming season, with former Real Madrid player and Real Betis boss Victor Sanchez currently favourite to take over.  However, it has been suggested that although Leeds have spoken with him, he is not the club’s first choice appointment.
