League Cup: Who are the seeded teams?

Behind the famous FA Cup, the League Cup is by far the next largest club tournament in the country. Throughout its history, it has continually produced some of the most memorable moments in the footballing calendar and clubs across the land will be eagerly waiting for the first round draw on Friday.

However, this year there is a twist. Remarkably, the first round draw is set to take place in Thailand! This is because the competition is now sponsored by Thai company Carabao and subsequently, the draw will be broadcast from Bangkok at 1pm GMT. Unbelievably however, this is not the first time the draw has been held on foreign soil. In 1991, current US President Donald Trump was part of the team which made the 5th round draw in New York.

Despite the phenomenon of the draw being held abroad, the main aspects will remain the same. As per usual, the draw will be split. Clubs have been placed in the Northern sector or the Southern sector and from here, the seeded teams have been announced.

Northern seeded teams: Barnsley, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Bradford City, Burton Albion, Derby County, Fleetwood Town, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Preston North End, Rochdale, Rotherham United, Scunthorpe United, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland and Wigan Athletic.

Southern seeded teams: Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Brentford, Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, Cardiff City, Charlton Athletic, Fulham, Ipswich Town, Millwall, MK Dons, Norwich City, Oxford United, Peterborough United, QPR, Southend United, Reading and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

All seeded teams will be drawn against non seeded teams from the same region and matches will be played week commencing 7th August.
