Four Italian clubs in battle to sign Leeds United outcast

Four Italian clubs are reportedly set to battle it out to sign Leeds United defender Giuseppe Bellusci, according to Italian new outlet Calciomercato.

The 27-year-old centre-back joined the Yorkshire club in 2014 from Italian side Catania, for whom he made 99 appearances during a 5-year spell.

Unfortunately, Bellusci’s Leeds United move didn’t work out, and after being shipped out on loan to Empoli last season, it appears his time at Elland Road is finally set to come to an end for good.

Despite being unable to prevent Empoli from suffering relegation to Serie B, Seria A new boys SPAL are willing to offer the Italian a lifeline as they look to secure survival in their maiden top flight season.

Bologna, Chievo Verona and Benevento are also interested in bringing the former Ascoli defender on board, with the 4 clubs set to battle it out over the summer in order to win his signature.

Bellusci’s Leeds United stint wasn’t the first time the 27-year-old failed to live up to expectations during his career. Between 2009 and 2010, the Italian made 6 appearances for the Italy Under-21 side, with many hoping he could push on and break into the senior squad.

It certainly hasn’t been a quiet summer, with Garry Monk’s departure cause for worry, as well as interest for star striker Chris Wood and the ongoing quest to replace Swansea loanee Kyle Bartley.

The departure of Bellusci would certainly open up more transfer funds, but no formal bid has been made for the defender as of yet.
