Southend United midfielder wants move after bids from Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield United rejected

Southend United’s Ryan Leonard has told the club he wants to leave after they turned down offers from Bolton Wanderers, Millwall and Sheffield United according to a report from HITC Sport.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who can also play in defence, is coming off the back of an impressive season where the Shrimpers challenged for a place in the Sky Bet League One play-offs though they would end up missing out. But thanks to this form several teams have become interested in him, with the likes of Bolton, Millwall and Sheffield United all making offers in an attempt to sign him.

Southend however are keen to keep one of their star players and have turned these offers down. But it isn’t just the club chasing Leonard’s signature that are unhappy about this rebuff, the man himself is disappointed at the fact these bids were rejected. According to this report, Leonard was promised that if Southend weren’t promoted this season and that he is very unhappy that the club have gone back on this.

He has now gone to both head coach Phil Brown and chairman Ron Martin and told them he is unhappy at what has happened and is currently mulling over what his next decision will be. He could simply wait out his contract until it expires next season but there isn’t a guarantee teams would want to sign him then if his value drops down in the mean time, causing him to miss his chance to play in the Championship.
