Birmingham City set for double swoop for Newcastle United and Liverpool defenders

Birmingham City are set for a double swoop on Newcastle United’s Grant Hanley and Liverpool’s Andre Wisdom according to a report from journalist Alan Nixon.

Unlike previous years, Birmingham have got a good budget going into this transfer window and head coach Harry Redknapp is planning to use it to make sure the Blues don’t end up being one game from relegation like they were this season. And it appears that Redknapp is going to strengthen their defence as he is now planning a double swoop on two talented defenders.

The first player they are looking to sign is Hanley from Newcastle United. The Magpies have made it clear that they are willing to sell him this summer after struggling to break into the first team in his first season at St James Park. This has led to a lot of interest from teams across the Sky Bet Championship with the likes of Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday being linked with the defender over the last few weeks. And now Birmingham can be added to that list as they are now looking to swoop for the former Blackburn Rovers defender.

But Hanley isn’t the only defender that Birmingham are looking to sign. They are also planning to swoop for Liverpool’s Wisdom who recently returned from a loan spell with Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg who were crowned as champions of the Austrian Bundesliga while he was there. But as it becomes more apparent he may not be able to become a regular for Liverpool, a move away from Anfield becomes more likely and Birmingham may be the ideal move.
