Leeds United rumoured transfer target “very close” – Romanina media

Every now and again, it’s getting to be almost with regularity, the rumour mill stops spinning and Leeds United are yet again linked with Stuttgart’s attacking midfielder Alexandru Maxim. This time it is Romanian media site digisport.

One rumour linking a player to Leeds United is the that regarding VfB Stuttgart’s Romanian attacking midfielder Alexandru Maxim. ‘Heavily linked’ with the Whites during both the summer and winter transfer windows, it seems that these rumours were starting to bubble under yet again, at the end of February. Maxim was apparently left feeling “heavy” at not being selected for his side’s latest game at the time against FC Heidenheim.

There were talks between Leeds and Stuttgart, but according to Maxim’s agent Herbert Briem, via Twitter account @VfBTransfers, the nature of these interactions were “loose talks.”

According to digisport though, not only are these rumours resurfacing but they are also beginning to gain a little more credence. Mention of “loose talk” is now out of the window to be replaced with an opinion that a switch is “very close.”

The Romanian media site says that “negotiations between Stuttgart and Leeds are more advanced” before going on to mention that Romanian international Maxim “is tempted by a new challenge.”

27-cap international Maxim struggled for regular game time at certain points of last season, appearing 25 times for Stuttgart in 2.Bundesliga last season, averaging around 58 minutes of game time. He struggled mainly in the middle of the season where he only made only 109 minutes on the pitch across a 13-game span.

Prior to that patch of absences, Maxim scored twice and created five assists in Stuttgart’s opening 14 games. When returning for the end-of-season promotion push, the Romanian international attacking midfielder scored a further three times and provided two more assists – his season total of five goals and seven assists meaning that he was involved in some form of goal every 122 minutes he was on the pitch.

With Stuttgart promoted to the Bundesliga, digisport say that the 26-year-old doesn’t know whether to continue his football in Germany or ply his trade abroad. They go on to say that “a decision in this regard will be taken after return from holiday.”
