Blackburn Rovers are set to land a great coup by signing Cardiff City’s Peter Whittingham according to a report from HITC Sport.
The 32-year-old midfielder originally signed for Cardiff and would become one of the club’s most iconic players over the last decade. He would be one of the leading figures as the Bluebirds constantly challenged for promotion and eventually got into the Premier League, though it would be just for one season. In recent years though Whittingham’s role in the first team has been reduced and he’s no longer as influential as he used to be.
So while Cardiff did offer Whittingham a new deal, he declined the offer and decided to head to pastures new so he can seek a new challenge. And now the playmaker is close to finding a new club as he is set to be a signing for a Sky Bet League One club looking for a confidence boost.
After being relegated from the Sky Bet Championship this year in what was a miserable season, Blackburn fans are looking for the club to do something to show that they may be able to get back into that league at the first time of asking. And while Whittingham is coming to the latter part of his career, this would be a huge coup for the Lancashire club. They would be signing a player who has shown while at Cardiff that he has a brilliant foot on him and he may be the difference in games if used properly.
