Former Leeds United and Aston Villa midfielder linked with £12million move to Newcastle United

It is probably easier to count the players that Newcastle United players have not been linked with this summer than it is to count who they have.

Everyday there seems to be a rumour, linking them with another big money move for a big time player.

Well this is a rumour that has been about for a number of weeks now, but developments have occurred.

The Magpies are known to have been interested in signing former Leeds United and Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph.

And today, the Chronicle reported that the Manchester City man would cost Rafa Benitez somewhere in the region of £12million.

Delph moved to Manchester City just two years ago, joining the club from Aston Villa, who were of course in the Premier League at the time.

The former England midfielder was originally a fan favourite at the Midlands club, but of course their feelings changed when he opted to make the move to Man City.

Delph appeared over 100 times for Villa during is spell at the club.

Prior to his time at Aston Villa, Delph had come through the youth system at Leeds United.

He moved to the club in 2001 at the age of 12, and made his way through their academy before eventually appearing for the first team.

Fabian Delph played just shy of 50 games for the Yorkshire club, but is still thought of highly by Leeds United fans.

The 27 year old midfielder’s experience extends beyond club football. Since making his England debut in 2014, he has appeared nine times for his country.
