Retained List: Three to leave play-off finalists Exeter City

Sky Bet League Two losing play-off finalists Exeter City have today revealed their retained list. A total of six players have been offered extensions, but three have been shown the door at St James’ Park by long serving manager Paul Tisdale.

There is some slight confusion about one of those three to have departed Exeter however. It would appear the door has not completely shut on him remaining. The other two have been told that now is the right time for them to seek a new challenge in the game.

Goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik has been allowed to leave the club. Tisdale has cited that ‘we are yet to establish whether we are able to carry 3 goalkeepers in the squad’. Therefore, with his deal expiring this summer, the decision has been taken to allow him to go. Tisdale however also said that ‘we would love to keep him if it were possible’. Nevertheless, he looks set to move on and find himself a new club. Tom McCready departs after a season troubled by injury, whilst Connor Riley-Lowe exits after being with the club since the age of 10, but found first-team opportunities hard to come by.

Four younger players have been told that they do have a future with the club, although none of yet to sign. Alex Byrne, Toby Down, Kyle Egan and Jordan Storey fit into that category. Two more experienced professionals are in the plans of Tisdale too, but are yet to sign the terms offered. Jamaican international Joel Grant and defender Troy Archibald-Henville, who endured a season of injury hell, are both wanted.

Released: Tom McCready, Connor Riley-Lowe & Bobby Olejnik.

Offered new contract: Alex Byrne, Toby Down, Kyle Egan, Jordan Storey, Troy Archibald-Henville & Joel Grant.
