Birmingham City in battle with Everton over French wonderkid

Sky Bet Championship side Birmingham City will go head to head with top flight Everton over the signing of French wonderkid Junior Sambia.

According to the Sun, the 20 year old midfielder is being scouted by a number of clubs all over Europe, following his impressive performances in the second division in France this season.

The Frenchman plays for Chamois Niortais, and he helped them to a mid table finish in Ligue 2 this campaign.

Sambia is a versatile player. His main position is considered to be a defensive midfielder, however he has been known to deputise as a central defender when called upon by his current club.

He began his youth career at hometown club Olympique Lyonnais, spending eight years at the French giants.

After failing to make the cut, he moved to Macon in 2011.

He spent two years at Macon, before joining Chamois Niortais. In the summer of 2014, Sambia was offered his first professional contract at the club.

The 20 year old made his debut in September 2014, at the tender age of 18 years and five days.

This made him the youngest player ever to make a professional appearance for the club.

Since his debut in 2014, Sambia has appeared 82 times for Chamois Niortais, scoring six goals.

Although Premier League side Everton are said to be interested, it is thought that if the midfielder does move to Merseyside he will not be in the first team picture.

Because of this, a move to Birmingham City may be more suitable in order to push on with his career.
