Middlesbrough have ‘no intention of rushing’ managerial appointment

The Middlesbrough Gazette Live understands that Middlesbrough won’t rush into naming a new manager. It was recently reported that former Leeds United head coach Garry Monk was set to take over at the Riverside Stadium. However the club are ‘still weighing up’ their available options.

It is still highly likely that Monk will become the next Middlesbrough manager. He is priced at 1/5 with Sky Bet to be so. He is followed by former player Nigel Pearson and caretaker boss Steve Agnew, albeit at bigger prices. Monk left Leeds at the end of the season after failing to agree upon an extension at Elland Road.

Monk’s usual number two, Pep Clotet, is the big favourite to be the permanent successor to Monk at Leeds, so it appears unlikely that he’ll join Monk on this next venture. James Beattie, who has worked with him at both Swansea and Leeds, should link up with him. Despite this media speculation, a senior source at Middlesbrough says that time is on their side and that they need to get the right man,

“We want to make sure we take this decision correctly, not quickly.

“We want to get this right and have no intention of rushing it. We are still weighing up our options.

“We will take as long as it takes to come to the decision that we think is best for the club.

“That doesn’t effect the running of the club in any way and preparations for the new season are in place.”

It is understood that Agnew, who took over from the sacked Aitor Karanka for the end stages of last season, is putting together pre-season schedule preparations.
