Wolverhampton Wanderers interested in former Manchester United defender

John O’Shea is an extremely experienced defender. He has won several Premier League medals, several FA Cups, and not to mention a Champions League.

But the Republic of Ireland international looks set to be playing in the second tier of England next season, following Sunderland’s relegation to the Sky Bet Championship.

And despite the veteran defender saying that he wants to stay at Sunderland, he is attracted attention from a number of second tier clubs, the Chronicle reports.

His future is up in the air at the moment as Sunderland as the Black Cats await the appointment of a new manager following the resignation of David Moyes.

And there are four Sky Bet Championship clubs waiting to swoop in for O’Shea if the new manager decides not to keep him on.

The only club named by the Irish Times is Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are said to be extremely interest in the defender.

As quoted by the Chronicle, a source close to O’Shea said: “John, ideally, wants to remain with Sunderland but only if he’s going to play.”

“If their new manager is not overly keen on John, then he has to leave, because his Irish place is dependent on him being active at club level. John has never been to a World Cup. He has played Champions League finals, FA Cup finals, captained Sunderland in the League Cup final and been to the Euros. But he wants to go to a World Cup.”

“He knows he may not get there if he’s sitting on a bench for the last year of his career. Four clubs are interested in him and they are all in the Championship. Wolves are one of those.”
