Popular Sheffield Wednesday midfielder may not leave after all

Sheffield Wednesday coach Lee Bullen has revealed to the Sheffield Star that midfielder Jose Semedo may still have a future with the club. He was recently confirmed as one of the out of contract players at Hillsborough, but Bullen states that doesn’t mean he will be moving on for definite.

The 32-year-old Portuguese is seen as a massive favourite among the Sheffield Wednesday faithful, despite only making 11 appearances last season. Semedo has played over 130 games for the club in a seven-year spell in South Yorkshire since making the move from Charlton Athletic on a free transfer.

Since Carlos Carvalhal became head coach, Semedo has certainly found it increasingly hard to hold down a regular starting place. Despite that fact, Bullen believes that Semedo could still have an Owls future and the writing isn’t necessarily on the wall for him just yet,

“I don’t know if there is actually anything on the table for Jose. I think that’s down to the chairman.

“I think Jose is the type of lad that is so phenomenally fit that he can do a job playing regularly. The decision might come down to Jose.”

Bullen, who has been on the first-team coaching staff since 2015, then added there’s ‘still a chance’ that Semedo could pull on the famous blue and white jersey next season. Although he clearly loves the club, he’ll still feel as though he can play a more prominent role at least at this level. He would likely have interest from overseas too, so he could have a big decision to make in the coming weeks.
