Preston North End deny reports they are to sign former striker

Preston North End have denied reports that they are interested in re-signing Rangers’ Joe Garner according to a report from the Lancashire Evening Post.

Last year one of the transfer sagas of the summer was Rangers trying to sign Garner. Reports suggested the two teams going back and forth with Garner himself trying to force the move before it was finally completed thanks to a fee believed to be around £1.8m.

But while Garner didn’t have the worst season up in Scotland after scoring ten goals for Rangers, it does appear like he might be on his way out. The club changed their head coach during the season with Mark Warburton being replaced by Pedro Caixinha and he has been told that if he wants funds to sign new players, he will need to raise the funds by selling some of the guys currently on their books. And one of the players that Caixinha would be willing to sell is Garner.

This led to a report in the Daily Record that Preston were planning to swoop for Garner and return him to Deepdale, with the club planning to make a £500K bid for the striker. But this move doesn’t appear to be happening as now further reports have emerged saying that the Lilywhites are not interested in signing Garner.

The club managed to replace Garner very well after his departure, with Jordan Hugill being able to step up the plate and become the club’s key goalscorer with the likes of Stevie May and Eoin Doyle as suitable back-ups. With those players being at the club, Preston don’t believe they need Garner to make a return.
