Earlier today news reports, such as the one in The Express, came out that former Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri had been approached by Leeds United with regard to the vacant manager position at Elland Road.
Garry Monk had handed in his resignation to Leeds, not wanting to take up the 12 month extension offer on his current deal, with many saying that he was looking for a longer deal and more security.
With this happening so unexpectedly, many observers have said that the Whites will be looking to bring in someone quickly, to enable them to bed in their ideas. The early frontrunner, according to online bookmakers Sky Bet, was Spaniard Aitor Karanka, but news of a Leeds United ‘approach’ for former Leicester City boss Ranieri has caused his odds to shorten dramatically – coming in from 12-1 yesterday to just 2/1 today.
However, news of an ‘approach’ by Leeds is news in itself for Premier League winner Ranieri in an article carried on the Training Ground Guru and authored by journalist Simon Austin. When spoken to by Austin, the Italian simply said that any reports linking him to the Leeds job are simply untrue.
Speaking from his home in London, Ranieri told journalist Austin that: “I don’t know anything about this Leeds story. I haven’t spoken to them.”
When pressed further about whether the Leeds job would appeal to him, Ranieri was again non-committal in his answer. Responding to the question, Ranieri simply said: “I prefer not to speculate.”
Speculate or not, Leeds United fans will be doing just that over on Twitter and Facebook as they chew the gristle over who will be the next appointed manager at the Whites.
