Retained List: Six look set to depart Sheffield Wednesday

Sky Bet Championship play-off semi-finalists Sheffield Wednesday today are the latest club to unveil their retained list. They confirm that six players are out of contract, meaning they are likely to be leaving. The Sheffield Star understands that Joe Wildsmith and Cameron Dawson will both be staying at the club after options were triggered to extend their stays.

Those to be leaving are practically all fringe players that head coach Carlos Carvalhal will feel as though he can replace. It is perhaps a surprise that a couple of them won’t be remaining at Sheffield Wednesday for their intended promotion push next season.

Central defender Vincent Sasso is out of contract and looks as though he’ll be moving on. He has provided great cover in this position ever since joining the club, but the club are seemingly looking to move in a different direction now. Jose Semedo has been with the club for a while now, but he has found first-team opportunities hard to come by as well. Darryl Lachman spent the past season on loan at Eredivisie side Willem II, so it is no shock that he has been allowed to move on seemingly. Claude Dielna has been away on loan at Dinamo Bucharest and looks likely to be moving on too. Fringe men Urby Emmanuelson and Modou Sougou edge closer to the exit door as well.

It looks as though second and third choice goalkeepers Joe Wildsmith and Cameron Dawson shall both be staying on. However this is yet to be officially confirmed by the football club, although local media suggests it is a done deal.

Contract expired: Claude Dielna, Urby Emanuelson, Darryl Lachman, Vincent Sasso, Jose Semedo & Modou Sougou.

Options taken to extend existing deals (not officially confirmed): Joe Wildsmith & Cameron Dawson.
