Bolton Wanderers sign Wigan Athletic loanee on permanent deal

Bolton Wanderers have signed Andrew Taylor from Wigan Athletic on a free transfer as confirmed by the club website.

The 30-year-old defender, who can also play in midfield, is already very familiar with the Macron Stadium as he spent the season on loan at the club, making 40 appearances and being a key player as they got promoted from Sky Bet League one. And with Wigan deciding to release him after they got relegated from the Sky Bet Championship, it was the ideal opportunity for Bolton to sign him up on a two-year deal.

Taylor started his career at Middlesbrough and would go on to make over 100 appearances for them before moving to Cardiff City in 2011. He would become a long term player in South Wales as well, notching up over 100 appearances there before his three-year spell there ended with a move to Wigan. And now three years later he is once again on the move to Bolton to help them establish themselves in the Championship following their promotion.

After the signing was completed, Bolton head coach Phil Parkinson said: “I’m really pleased that Andrew has signed a permanent deal with us.”

“He had a very good year last season and has a lot of experience at Championship level. I’m looking forward to working with him over the next two seasons.”

Taylor added: “It’s fantastic to get it all tied up so early in the off season.”

“As soon as last season ended I was keen to speak with the club and thankfully we’ve got everything sorted.”

“Last season was fantastic and we’ll all be looking to kick on.”
