Brentford sign Denmark international defender on three-year deal

Brentford have signed Henrik Dalsgaard from Belgian side Zulte Wagarem for an undisclosed fee as confirmed by the club website.

The Bees have had success from buying abroad in the past and they will be hoping to repeat that with this signing that they have just completed. Reports had been circulating for a while that they were interested in Dalsgaard and finally they have signed him up to a three-year deal which will keep him at Griffin Park until 2020.

Dalsgaard played for several lower league Danish teams before being spotted and signed by AaB. Even though he was initially meant to be a winger, he found that he was better used at right back and would make over 100 appearances for them in that position. In 2016 he would move to Zulte Wagarem and while injuries did blight his year in Belgium, he still impressed in the 21 appearances he did make for the club. He has also been capped by his national team Denmark on three occasions.

After the signing was completed, Brentford head coach Dean Smith said: “Henrik is a player that we have been looking at for some time and someone we believe can improve the squad. We have watched him quite a few times and we like his qualities on the pitch. We also believe he has the right character to fit in to the squad and help us improve. I am looking forward to working with him next season.”

Brentford’s Co-Director of Football Rasmus Ankersen added: “It is always nice to sign players early in the summer window. Having as much of the squad together at the start of pre-season as possible will only help us prepare. I would like to welcome Henrik to Brentford and look forward to seeing him as part of our training group when the players return next month.”
