Retained List: Notable departures head out of Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers may have some doubts revolving their managerial position, but today the squad situation looked a little clearer as a result of their retained list being issued. It has seen a few players which good history at the club told they won’t be needed next season.

Paul Lambert appeared on television recently, stating that he expects to be in charge at Wolves next season. Nevertheless, there is still some big doubt surrounding that fact. Focusing on the playing side for now, some has also been issued with new contracts to remain with the club too.

One-year options have been taken up to extend the deals of midfielder Jack Price and the versatile George Saville. Price found himself mainly out of the side in the final weeks of the season, so it is a slight surprise to see this option taken up, although there is still a chance he could leave. Saville was used both in midfield and a left back role under Lambert and his ability to play a few positions makes him a handy option. Young striker Duckens Nazon also has a new 12-month deal. Talks are ongoing with experienced full back Silvio.

Richard Stearman has returned to Fulham following the conclusion of his loan spell and the club will not be looking to turn this into a permanent deal. Unlike in the case of Andreas Weimann, who officially goes back to parent club Derby County but Wolves are in talks to make this a permanent transfer this summer.

Central defender Mike Williamson has been released following an injury plagued stint at the club. He proved his quality when he was fit to play and slotted into the defence, but this didn’t happen as often as he’d like. He’ll move on to seek a new challenge. Wide man James Henry also moves on too. He ended the season out on loan with Bolton, so it is no shock to see he’ll be heading out permanently.

One-year options taken: Jack Price, George Saville & Duckens Nazon.

Talks ongoing: Silvio.

Released: Mike Williamson & James Henry.

Returned to parent club after conclusion of loan: Richard Stearman (won’t be returning permanently & Andreas Weimann (club talking to Derby over a permanent transfer).
