Retained List: Charlton allow five to leave The Valley

There are no huge shocks on the retained list issued by Charlton Athletic this afternoon. Manager Karl Robinson has confirmed that five players will leave The Valley following the expiration of their respective contracts with the Sky Bet League One club.

In addition to this, Charlton have extended the deals of two experienced midfield players based on appearances they had last season. The Addicks disappointed in their first season back at this level and will certainly be hoping for an improved showing in the next year to come.

Left back Adam Chicksen is perhaps the most notable departure from the club in the sense that he played the most out of those who are leaving. Of the 46 League One clubs Charlton had last season, Chicksen either started or appeared off the bench in 21 of those. The ex-Brighton man is searching for a new club. Experienced centre back Roger Johnson is another of those and he’ll be hoping he can resurrect his career after a season to forget. Dimitar Mitov, Terell Thomas, who has been on loan with Vanarama National League side Woking, and Chris Millar completes the list.

Johnnie Jackson and Andrew Crofts will be staying at the club for another 12-months after they triggered clauses on their existing deals. Those were most likely appearance-based, and Robinson will be glad to be able to call upon the pairing again. Crofts only didn’t feature in one of their league games, whilst Jackson played over 30 times as well.

Released: Roger Johnson, Adam Chicksen, Dimitar Mitov, Terell Thomas & Chris Millar.

Triggered one-year contract extensions: Johnnie Jackson & Andrew Crofts.
