Top 50 Players of the EFL – 26. David Wheater (Bolton Wanderers)

Bolton Wanderers defender David Wheater has been voted by you as the 26th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Wheater is the 26th best player in the Football League.

Even though Bolton were the latest big team to drop into Sky Bet League One after a simply disastrous year in the Sky Bet Championship, not many expected them to do that well. They were still getting over a lot of financial problems and with the way they got relegated, they seemed like one of those teams that would take a while to get adjusted before being able to stage a push for promotion.

And yet that didn’t happen as Bolton were brilliant throughout the year and got promoted after finishing in 2nd place. and a lot of that was because of Wheater. Even though he is more used to playing in the Championship, he fit in well in League One and became a dominant part of the defence. Throughout the year the Lancashire club were rock solid at the back and much of that was down to Wheater’s consistently great performances.

Now that Bolton and Wheater are back in the Championship, they will be looking to make sure it isn’t a temporary one. They will hope to carry the momentum from this season and show that they
