Top 50 Players of the EFL – 40th: Marvin Johnson (Oxford United)

Oxford United winger Marvin Johnson has been voted by you as the 40th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Johnson is the 40th best player in the Football League.

Even though last summer was one of jubilation after getting promoted to Sky Bet League One, there was still some disappointing moments for Oxford. Most notably was the fact they lost star player Kemar Roofe, the man fired them to the division, who decided to leave and join Leeds United. While it was going to be tough to replace him, Oxford had to do it and one of the players who was thought to be able to fill in his shoes was Johnson, who signed on Transfer Deadline Day from Scottish side Motherwell.

The signing turned out to be better than anyone could have expected. He would become Oxford’s key creative force as they challenged for a spot in the play-offs and was usually involved in some way when the U’s scored. he would also get a few himself and in the end scored six goals in 50 games.

Because of this, Johnson is now attracting interest from the Championship and like Roofe before him, many leave after having one great season with them. But if he does stay at the Kassam Stadium, he’ll be hoping to continue to be a key attacking force as they look to qualify for the play-offs.
