Newcastle United pair set to move on this summer

Newcastle United’s Sammy Ameobi and Haris Vuckic will leave the club this summer on the expiry of their current contracts, according to a report from the Chronicle.

Neither player made a significant impact on the Magpies’ first-team this season, with Vuckic being shipped out on loan to League One outfit Bradford City, and winger Ameobi spending the first half of the campaign with Bolton Wanderers.

The Nigerian did make seven first-team substitute appearances after returning from his loan spell, but Vuckic’s opportunities were limited; he was consigned to the Under-23s for the remainder of the season.

The pair are just two of the seven out-of-contract players currently awaiting confirmation of their future at St. James’ Park, with first-teamers Vernon Anita and Yoan Gouffran also among the names.

Anita has already expressed his desire to remain with the Tyneside club, but has conceded that like any other out-of-contract player, his future lies out of his own hands.

He said: “I have to wait and see, it is up to the club. We have to see what the club decides.”

Sammy Ameobi, the younger brother of veteran Shola, joined the Magpies as a youth prospect in 2008, signing his first professional contract two years later.

While he has spent much of his senior career away from St James’ Park, being shipped out on loan a number of times, he has still managed to make over 50 appearances for the club during his seven-year stay as a professional.

However, following Newcastle’s promotion to the Premier League it is expected that he will move on.

Likewise, Slovenian playmaker Vuckic signed for the Magpies in 2009; he was regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Europe at the time.

However, he failed to have a lasting impact on the squad at any point, having managed just seven senior appearances since he joined the club from Slovenian outfit Domzale.
