Former Magpies favourite offered new Notts County deal

Former Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi has been offered a new one-year contract with Sky Bet League Two club Notts County according to the Nottingham Post.

The 35-year-old veteran frontman joined The Magpies on a short-term deal in February in a move which saw the player link up with former Newcastle United teammate Kevin Nolan who is manager of the fourth tier outfit.

After impressing during his short time at Meadow Lane, it has been reported that Notts County have made the decision to offer Ameobi a new deal to remain with the club next season.

The striker joined Notts County as a free agent after spending over eight months without a club since leaving Sky Bet League One outfit Fleetwood Town last season. Ameobi has netted four goals in 17 appearances for The Magpies.

Ameobi spent 17 years of his career with Newcastle United who he joined as a scholar. The player successfully graduated to the first team squad at St James’ Park and made 397 appearances for the club, scoring 79 goals despite often being overshadowed by more well known stars.

Since leaving Tyneside in summer 2014, Ameobi has featured for a whole host of clubs including Turkish club Gaziantep BB, Crystal Palace, Bolton Wanderers, and Fleetwood Town prior to his move to Meadow Lane.
