Bristol Rovers: two players sign a new deal at the Memorial Stadium

Darrell Clarke has offered a total of five contracts to five of his men in preparation for next season. Today, he has given the second and third deal out, but who is it?

Ryan Broom: Midfielder, 20

Ryan Broom was the first to sign a new deal this morning. He has been at the club since his youth career and has had a loan spell at Bath City earlier in the 2016/17 season. He made 6 league appearances for Gary Owens’ squad and scored his début when The Romans played Eastbourne in October last year.

The Welshman has made only 5 appearances this season for The Pirates and has been an addition to the squad towards the end of the current campaign.

He spoke to the club about his signing: “I’m happy to be signing a new contract and looking forward to pushing on again next season.” [Bristol Rovers Official Website]

My opinion: Yay or Nay?

This youngster has been with the club since undergoing the development squad as a teenager, so he has been following for years. However, he’s young and I’ve seen Darrell Clarke’s expected signing list this summer and I can only see him being on the bench next season.

Rory Gaffney: Striker, 27

The Irishman signed his first deal with the club back in 2016 after his spell with Cambridge United. Since his move, he’s played in 66 games, 17 goals scored and has produced 7 assists. He’s become a key player under Darrell Clarke.

This season, he has played 73.9% league games and has scored 6 goals, including two late goals against Peterborough last month.

Steve Hamer, chairman of the club has spoken about Gaffney’s new deal: “We are delighted that Rory has signed the new contract offered to him at the end of last season as we feel that he will be an important member of our squad as we challenge for a top six place next season.”

My Opinion: Yay or Nay?

Gaffney has been a key part of Darrell Clarke’s squad. He had a good partnership with Matty Taylor before his departure and since then, it’s become more clear as to how in-form he has been overall. He scores goals and plays the way we expect. DC is looking for new strikers for next season and I’m sure he’ll work well with whoever they may be.
