Birmingham City ready to cause huge Women’s FA Cup upset

Women’s FA Cup giant-killers Birmingham City Ladies will be looking to cause a huge upset in front of a national audience when they face Manchester City Women in the Final at Wembley later this afternoon (kick off 5.15pm).

The Blues are this season’s surprise package in the competition with Marc Skinner’s side having already dumped last year’s finalists Arsenal Ladies and Chelsea Ladies out of the FA Women’s Cup in the previous two rounds and the unfashionable FA Women’s Super League 1 club will be looking to add a third scalp to their hugely impressive list by beating a star-studded Manchester City side.

Birmingham City’s key to success is their rock solid defence. Barring penalty kicks, The Blues have conceded just once in the previous three rounds of the competition while in the FA Women’s Super League 1 Spring Series they managed to take a point from Manchester City at The Academy Stadium.

Skinner’s side have not lost in 90 minutes to City in each of their last three meetings, with The Blues recording two draws and taking last season’s Continental Tyres Cup Final into extra time before finally being breached by their world class opponents.

Another tight match is set to be played out at Wembley and it would be no surprise to see The Blues push City all the way with extra-time and penalty kicks a real possibility.
