The Express & Star understands that Wolverhampton Wanderers owners Fosun are ‘sourcing possible successors’ to head coach Paul Lambert. It is believed the Wolves hierarchy are sounding out names based domestically and abroad.
The future of Lambert has been placed into some doubt in recent times. The Scot has expressed his concern over potentially not having final say on incoming transfers, with super-agent Jorge Mendes seemingly the man in charge in the eyes of the owners. Supposedly one week ago Lambert was told that they were thinking of a managerial change at the Sky Bet Championship club.
Whilst Lambert has demonstrated a willingness to work alongside and with Mendes, he doesn’t feel as though it’s right he has the final decision on transfers at Molineux. Last summer, when Walter Zenga was head coach, several foreign players entered the club, with many being classed as misses rather than hits. Lambert, who left his role as Blackburn Rovers manager after a disagreement with the owners, is believed to be eyeing up more British players to boost his squad.
The ex Wycombe Wanderers and Norwich City boss is understood to be preparing himself to either be sacked, or possibly walk away. Even if Fosun do decide to keep him on board, their relationship could hardly be described as too strong or water tight. A recent conversation between Lambert and Fosun had been very positive, with plenty of excitement ahead of the new season. However developments appear to have fast forwarded to a point where Lambert could soon be out of work despite successfully keeping the club in the division last season. Should he move on, then Wolves would be looking for their fourth different head coach in the space of a year.
