Leeds United set to receive fee for Charlie Taylor

Premier League side West Bromwich Albion will pay Leeds United for the services of want away defender Charlie Taylor, rather than letting the deal go to a tribunal, according to the Express & Star.

As he is out of contract this summer, and the player is under 24 years of age, the Baggies would be required to pay a compensation fee to Leeds in order to complete a move.

As a result, the two clubs are reportedly locked in negotiations over a fee for the 23-year-old, in order to avoid the need for a tribunal.

Taylor’s desire to leave Elland Road as soon as possible has been well-publicised in the media, and it was widely reported that he refused to play for Garry Monk’s side in their match against relegated Wigan Athletic on the final day of the season.

It is now believed that West Brom are close to agreeing personal terms with the player, with only a settlement with his current club needing to be finalised.

Baggies boss Tony Pulis has acknowledged his interest in the 23-year-old, but says the club would prefer to negotiate a settlement with the Whites than let the deal go to a tribunal.

“It could go to a tribunal, but our club would rather try and sort a deal out with Leeds if we’re going to do it. So there’s still a lot of air in that bag before anything is achieved.”

Leeds narrowly missed out on a play-off place last season, as they struggled to maintain winning form over the final ten games of the campaign.

As a result, the future of manager Garry Monk is currently up in the air at Elland Road, with the vast majority of supporters calling for him to stay.
