Leeds United fans were hopeful that they would re-sign Kyle Bartley from Swansea City this summer, however Swans boss Paul Clement has confirmed that the central defender is part of his plans for next season.
And with rumours that his centre half partner Pontus Jansson is attracting interest from Premier League clubs such as Southampton, Garry Monk and Leeds United could be in trouble this summer, and will be looking desperately for centre backs to bolster their squad.
One defender that they have been linked with a lot over recent weeks is Frederico Venacio, a centre half in the top flight of Portugal.
I’m not sure many Leeds United fans will know a lot about Venacio, so here’s a quick rundown of everything you need to know about the Portuguese man:
Frederico Venâncio is 1.86metres. This is the equivalent to 6ft1inches.
He’s only 24, meaning there is plenty of time for potential development.
Although he hasn’t been capped by the senior Portugal team, he’s featured 10 times at youth level, for the U20s and U21s.
He plays for Vitoria Setabul, who play in the Liga Nos, the top flight in Portugal.
Venancio has been at the club since 2012, when he moved from Portuguese giants Benfica.
He was at Benfica for just a year. Prior to this, he spent his youth career at his current club, Vitoria Setabul.
Last season, Venancio played 25 games in the league, scoring three times and assisting one for his team mates.
Throughout the season he averaged a rating of 6.94, according to whoscored.com.
His defensive stats were extremely impressive. He averaged 1.7 tackles, 1.8 interceptions, and 5.6 clearances per game.
However, he did score one own goal in the previous season.
Venancio has helped his Vitoria Setabul to 11th place in Liga NOS, with two games left to play.
