Wigan Athletic: The Top Three Manager Favourites

1. Nathan Jones (5/6)

Nathan Jones took his first senior managerial role halfway through the 2015/16 season, taking control of Luton Town back in January 2016. In his first full season as manager he has led The Hatters to a firm fourth place finish, accumulating 77 points, 8 points behind third place Doncaster, but 6 points clear of fifth place Exeter City.

Luton Town are set to play Blackpool in the first semi-final leg this weekend and could go further to succeed as a senior manager, by taking the Bedfordshire side to Wembley and getting promoted to Sky Bet League One.

The Hatters have been flirting with the League Two playoff places for a while, but Jones could finally be successful in moving the Kenilworth Road side to the third tier.

If Luton Town fails to succeed in the playoffs, Wigan Athletic could succeed in poaching the manager who may be persuaded to manage an established club like the Latics in the division above.

Before managing Luton Town, Jones has held assistant manager roles at Brighton and Hove Albion, and Yeovil Town. The Welshman has also managed Charlton Athletic’s U21 side.
