Retained List: Steve Evans lets 11 players go at Mansfield

Mansfield Town have become the latest Sky Bet League Two club to reveal their retained list, and manager Steve Evans has decided to make big changes. A total of eleven players have been told that they are no longer needed, which does include the fact they are now without a goalkeeper!

Their captain and also their top scorer from last season have both been allowed to exit as well. Evans clearly is setting his sights on promotion into Sky Bet League One next season, so Mansfield are certainly a club to monitor with regards recruitment over the course of the summer months.

Striker Matt Green helped himself to ten goals in their league campaign last season as the Stags just missed out on the play-offs. He is certainly a favourite among the supporters but has been told he is no longer needed. 28-year-old defender Lee Collins, their captain, also departs. He featured in the majority of their games last season but Evans feels as though a change is required.

The rest of those to leave have been involved over the past season for sure but couldn’t necessarily fall under the category of regulars or key players. Veteran goalkeeper Brian Jensen and Scott Shearer have both been told to find themselves new clubs. Former Walsall man James Baxendale now becomes a free agent, in addition to Yoann Arquin. Kevan Hurst and Ashley Hemmings are in search of new employers, along with Corbin Shires and Pat Hoban. Jamie McGuire has officially been released but has been offered the chance to join the Under-21 coaching staff.
