Retained List: Big change at Cheltenham Town

Following the culmination of their Sky Bet League Two campaign at the weekend, Cheltenham Town have become the first team at that level to reveal their retained list. Experienced manager Gary Johnson has confirmed that eleven players have not been offered extensions.

In addition to that, the Cheltenham boss remains in discussions with a number of other first-team players regarding their contract situation. Five players are definitely under contract, with nine being offered extended terms with the Gloucestershire based club.

The Robins ended the campaign four points above the drop zone, but they successfully avoided an immediate return to the Vanarama National League, the division they won last season. Matt Bower, Will Boyle, Dan Holman, Harry Pell and Carl Winchester all remain contracted, but nine of their teammates have been offered extensions. Those are Jordan Cranston, Aaron Downes, Rhys Lovett, Adam Page, Daniel O’Shaughnessy, Kyle Storer, Josh Thomas, Billy Waters and Danny Wright. Johnson will continue to speak to these and he was issue a statement about his retained list in the near future.

Focusing on those that have left the club, there are eleven in total. Asa Hall, James Jennings, Amari Morgan-Smith and Daniel Parslow are four to depart that are not great surprises. Those were loaned out for most of last season by Johnson.

Making up the rest of those on the departure list from Whaddon Road are James Dayton, Jack Munns, Calum Kitscha, Liam Davis, Jack Barthram, Jordan Lymn and James Rowe. All are free to find themselves new clubs. Gloucestershire Live understands that Cheltenham are looking to sign goalkeeper Scott Brown from Wycombe Wanderers, so a new keeper appears to be high on Johnson’s agenda this summer.
