Charlie Taylor’s contract at Leeds United runs out at the end of the season, but nobody expected the events of today to happen.
The former Leeds player of the year refused to play for the club in their final game of the season at Wigan Athletic, amid rumours that his contract will be allowed to run out, and he will move on from the club.
It was just a few days ago that Garry Monk praised Charlie Taylor for his commitment throughout the season. That can be read about here.
But today, the Leeds United boss has had some harsher words to say about the Leeds United defender.
Monk was clearly not happy with Taylor’s actions. He went on to discuss the future of the defender.
“Refusing to play a game makes a big statement,” he said.
“I’m disappointed for him because he’s a fantastic lad. I’ve got a lot of time for Charlie. He’s a young lad, not very experienced in these situations, and you need proper guidance. You need people around you to help you do things right. He’ll learn from the experience I’m sure but the club cannot have or accept a player refusing to play. It’s not what it should be. The club will have a strong stance on it.”
He finished by saying: “We’ve not seen the full Charlie Taylor and this last episode is hugely disappointing. He’s not a bad lad at all. He’s a good person and a good footballer but he’ll have to face the consequences of his actions.”
Monk wasn’t the only person who was angry with Taylor.
Leeds United fans were quick to take to Twitter to discuss their feelings, and as you can see here, they were not happy either.
West Brom boss Tony Pulis has been interested in signing Charlie Taylor since last summer, but it is rumoured that Liverpool are also looking at a deal for the young defender.
