Sheffield Wednesday better than they were last year

Sheffield Wednesday’s Jose Semedo has told the club website that they are better going into this year’s Sky Bet Championship play-offs than they were last year.

The fan favourite was once again given the chance to captain the Owls on their final game of the season against Fulham, though it would be a disappointing day of the office. Despite going ahead early thanks to Sam Winnall, the Cottagers were able to come back from behind to win the game thanks to a brace from Neeskens Kebano.

But while these two teams could face each other again in the play-off final at Wembley, it was a game that both teams would rather ignore as the play-offs start proper next Saturday. Wednesday were involved in last year’s play-offs but ended up being heartbroken after being beaten by Hull City 1-0 last year.

But Semedo believes that the South Yorkshire side are better this time than they were last year and this can be the time when they finally get promoted back to the Premier League.

He said: “We know what we have to do, we know where we are.”

“We have a better team now, we have better players and there is more strength in the squad and this makes us much, much better than last year.”

“Every game will be tough, and we are ready for that, Huddersfield are a good side as we are, but we believe in ourselves and we will go out to win the two games.”

“Last year we believed we could do it, but this time we are much more confident that we can.”

“The team spirit has been amazing throughout the season and that is why we are where we are.”

“Our fans have been amazing and when we play at home we don’t play with 11, we play with 30,000, and it makes all the difference.”

“The defeat last year has made us even stronger.”
