Northampton Town sign released MK Dons player

On Friday afternoon, Northampton Town announced that they have signed released MK Dons player, Daniel Powell, on a free transfer, according to the official club’s website.

It was announced in April that Milton Keynes’ Dons would release Daniel Powell at the end of the season, which concluded last weekend.

The Cobblers have made a swift piece of business of securing the signature of Powell on a two-year deal which will finalise as soon as the transfer window opens on the 1st of July, and did not cost the East Midlands side any initial transfer fund.

Powell made over 250 appearances for MK Dons, scoring a total of 46 goals at the Buckinghamshire outfit. The 26-year-old is known for his impressive pace as a winger and ability to run at the opposition.

Northampton Town manager, Justin Edinburgh spoke to the official club’s media team, and is delighted about his first signing of the summer, and what he will be able to offer the Midlands side next season.

“I am delighted to welcome Daniel as our first signing this summer,” said manager Justin Edinburgh.

“Despite only being in his mid-twenties, he has a wealth of experience in League 1 and the Championship and he provides qualities I feel we need more of in the squad.

“He offers pace and width, he is direct and he is a threat to defenders. He is unpredictable, he is the sort of player who keeps supporters on the edge of their seats and I think is a very good signing for us.

“Daniel is an exciting player who offers flair and skill along with a goal threat, he is a good age and I am sure he will prove a popular addition.

“We spoke about having a better balance to the squad, of having more options and players with pace who can change games, and Daniel helps in all of those areas.

“We also spoke about the importance of having good characters in the dressing room, Daniel is certainly a good character, he is an excellent professional and he will fit in well.

“We identified Daniel as one of our early targets and we are delighted to have secured this deal so early on.”
