Carlos Carvalhal threatens to leave press conference over contract questions

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal threatened to leave today’s pre-match press conference after repeated questions about his future at the club according to a report from the Yorkshire Post.

Today was the pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s match against Fulham, a game that looked like it was going to have massive play-off implications before both teams were able to qualify for the end of season lottery last week. With the game now being a dead rubber, though they could end up facing each other in the play-offs, journalists attending the press conference had to come up with a unique line of questioning.

They decided to press Carvalhal on his contract situation which is currently unknown. No one is quite sure how long his current deal lasts and if he has signed a new one, so they decided to ask him today about how long his current contract is set to run. However Carvalhal took offence to these questions and threatened to leave the press conference should the journalists in attendance continue to ask about his contract.

He said: “Everything is calm, quiet, everything is happy. I want everyone to focus on the Fulham game.”

“It is a situation I don’t want to talk about in this press conference, I want to talk about Sheffield Wednesday, we have achieved the play-offs. We have a lot of good things to talk about.”

“If you don’t change the conversation, I leave. Really, I will leave.”

Wednesday will be hoping to beat Fulham to get a mental advantage over them in case they do end up rematching in the play-offs later on this month.
