Wigan Athletic loanee, Nathan Byrne, said his goodbyes and farewells on social media after the season came to an end last weekend, thanking everyone for their support in his enjoyable spell at Charlton Athletic.
Byrne joined Charlton Athletic from Wigan back in the January transfer window, on a loan deal lasting until the end of the 2016/17 League One season. On Sunday afternoon, Byrne was part of the starting XI which saw out a 3 – 0 win against Swindon Town, which marked the conclusion of this season’s campaign.
Back in January, when Byrne was in talks about joining the Addicks, he pushed for assurances from Charlton’s coaching setup that he would be able to play in his preferred position as a right-winger, rather than his secondary position of right-back. However, a significant injury to Charlton’s Chris Solly meant that Byrne was forced to cover for the Charlton academy product, only playing in his preferred position on a few occasions.
Despite that Nathan Byrne seemed to come across grateful and very passionate about his time at Charlton, on one occasion stating that he “loves” the club. Whether or not he could return to the Addicks on a permanent basis in the summer remains to be seen.
He took to Twitter as he is set to make a return to the Latics, thanking Charlton and the fans for all their support in an enjoyable but short loan spell.

The Addicks’ faithful have responded with gratitude and some have suggested they would like to see him join Charlton on a permanent basis in the summer transfer window.
