Ipswich Town starlet commits future to club

Championship side Ipswich Town have announced on their official website that their young midfielder Andre Dozzell has signed a three-year contract extension with the club.

The 18-year-old put pen to paper yesterday to ensure he will remain with the Suffolk side until at least 2020.

Speaking about his future, the playmaker has said that he hopes he can establish himself as a key member of Town’s first team in the near future, having been a regular for the club’s under-23 side this season.

“I’ve been in and around the first-team this season and that’s my goal, to play regularly for the team. That is the only thing that will keep me improving and that is what I’m focused on.
“It was hard when I wasn’t involved over the first half of the season but I can see why I wasn’t. The Championship is a tough league, and it’s difficult to throw someone of my age into those types of games, but I’ve been working hard in the gym to become bigger and stronger.”
Dozzell, son of former Blues man Jason, has made seven senior appearances for Ipswich since breaking through the youth system in 2016, and is widely regarded as a special talent amongst coaching staff.

He is also a regular member of the England under-18 side, having previously made 20 appearances for the Three Lions at other age groups.

Since marking his professional début last season with a goal (he bagged the equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday) he has been in and around the first team at Portman Road, and is one to watch for the future as he looks to fulfil his potential as one of the brightest young talents in the EFL.

Ipswich travel to the City Ground to take on relegation battlers Nottingham Forest on Sunday, knowing that a win could send the Reds down to the third tier for the first time since 2008.
