Charlton Athletic will be a force to be reckoned with in the transfer window

Charlton Athletic is a club hard to turn down and has significant pulling power which will be an advantage in the upcoming transfer window, according to Northern Ireland international, Josh Magennis, who spoke to Kent Live.

The former Premier League outfit enjoyed its greatest success in recent history under Alan Curbishley in the top flight, competing against some of the best teams in the world for seven consecutive seasons, coming close to European qualification on several occasions.

This year marks a decade since Charlton Athletic were relegated from the Premier League, and have not been able to mount a return since. However, the badge of Charlton Athletic, and the club itself still carries a lot of weight when it comes to attracting and competing for players in the transfer windows.

Northern Ireland international, Josh Magennis, joined the Addicks from Kilmarnock last summer, and when speaking to Kent Live, said that it was a no-brainer for him when was approached, and said many other players will be in the same mindset in the upcoming summer transfer window.

“It was the same with me in the summer [2016], it was a no-brainer, you just come, it’s Charlton Athletic Football Club,” he said.

“There’s still that pulling power. Even though we finished mid-table, when your agent rings you and says Charlton Athletic want to sign you it was like ‘make the deal happen’ because it was that simple for me.

“I’m sure it’s going to be the same when other players get the phonecall as well.

“So it’s up to each individual to look after themselves when we are away, and then you can hit the ground running and put doubts in the manager’s mind, you don’t make it easy for him to leave you out.

“That’s what we’ve all got to do because I estimate there will be a lot of changes. A lot of places up for competition and if you’ve got the jersey you’ve got to keep it.”

The Charlton faithful will be hoping that the stature and history of their club, will be a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming transfer window, allowing them to compete and secure the list of players on Karl Robinson’s transfer list.
